If you play a game that has different levels, as you change levels, excess ram may be used to cache levels you've been to before. Something a lot of folks here are forgetting is that most modern OSs will use excess RAM as a cache, which could (potentially) make your computer faster, though generally only on successive uses of the same files. Same time I was not even getting close to maxing out my 16GB of RAM prior to the increase to 32GB.Īppliance is throttled by lack of memory, it uses a different path during program code I just increased my system from 16GB to 32GB and noticed zero difference in computer speed and or overall performance. The embedded CPU was much more powerful than the main CPU of the computer which was using either i286 or i386 CPU. I was impressed by the speed of my embedded operating system and application when a significant part of it was running of CPU registers instead of memory or storage 30 years ago. You should design your experiment better and add more than 256 GB of memory for getting expected results. ![]() So your experiment for testing your policies was probably poorly designed, adding too few memory. ![]() Depending on your use case, such automatic memory disk could still be too small for such switch of mode and increase of speed. If you configured policies on your undisclosed computer running undisclosed operating system to run in fastest mode if more memory would be added, it could switch according to these policies to run off memory and registers instead of SSD nor HDD. Sorry, I didn't get the configuration of your computer before you added memory. Does increasing RAM capacity actually speed up a computer or does it just prevent the computer from slowing down?
